Years ago Abraham Lincoln said,  “You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.

Although some people are trying to fool Addison residents into believing nothing good has been happening in Addison, don’t be fooled.  Many positive things have been happening in Addison — not the least of which include the following facts:

Fact

Capital improvements have been numerous, including undergrounding utilities on Belt Line Road, lighting improvements along Beltway, resurfacing Addison Road, the development of pedestrian walkways, improvements for the Les Lacs and Winnwood ponds and the overall beautification of the Belt Line project.

Fact

Our tax base is being enhanced with the completion of a new six-story office building along the toll way service road, the construction of a 132-suite five-story Home2Suites by Hilton, and the Council’s approval of the Addison Grove project, which will add nearly $100 million to our tax base.

Fact

The Town has retained a law firm to institute a suit against Landmark Structures and Urban Green Energy to recover a substantial amount of taxpayer funds spent in connection with the purchase, installation and construction of the failed wind energy system on top the water tower at Surveyor Boulevard and Arapaho Road.

Fact

Our new Police Chief has taken a more aggressive stance on reversing criminal activity at targeted hotels by directing our Hotel Business Retention Unit, Criminal Investigation Section and Patrol Officers to begin targeting these criminal elements.  This sends the message that Addison is not the place you want to operate if you are a criminal.

Fact

Accountability has been improved immeasurably by establishing financial policies, practices and procedures following COSO standards (considered the standard for an effective system of financial controls and widely embraced by public and private entities).  These professional procedures insure the protection of valuable tax dollars.

Fact

Communication and transparency have been enhanced with Public Comment opportunities at Council meetings, semi-annual Town Hall meetings, Mayor’s Coffees, monthly Economic Development luncheons and the continuation of the weekly Mayor’s newsletter.  Five years ago these informative and inclusive activities were non-existent.

Fact

A new, highly qualified City Manager has brought a fresh dedication and commitment to leading our talented staff toward continuing to do all the things that make Addison such a unique and envied part of the Metroplex.

Fact

Previously there was no Code Enforcement department.  A Code Enforcement department has now been established and is fully functioning.  They are charged with protecting our brand and property values.

Fact

The Financial Services department has been reorganized and staff added to improve our internal control process and protect taxpayer dollars.

So don’t be fooled.   There are many positive things to be proud of happening in Addison. As John Adams said:
